ERRORS IN ONCOLOGIC RADIOLOGY: UNDERSTANDING THEM TO PREVENT THEM
Learning Objectives:
Encourage radiologists to recognize, analyze, and prevent diagnostic errors in oncologic radiology as a whole, promoting safer and more efficient practice.
Course Description:
Oncologic radiology is one of the most complex and challenging fields in diagnostic medicine. Small interpretative errors can have a significant impact on staging, treatment, and patient prognosis. This course was designed to help radiologists improve diagnostic accuracy and reduce the occurrence of errors. Topics will range from fundamental concepts of diagnostic errors to the practical analysis of real-life cases. Major errors will be discussed by system—thorax, abdomen, pelvis, central nervous system, and musculoskeletal system—as well as cross-cutting topics such as artificial intelligence applied to error detection, cognitive bias, effective communication, and safety culture. Case discussions will be interactive, featuring real-world errors and how they could have been avoided.
